Lesson Learned #26 by this Pet Sitter

My dogs as well as the dogs I walk like Christmas trees.  I'm not sure what the fascination is about Christmas trees laying on the side of the street waiting for trash collection but all dogs want to smell them.  The boy dogs want to pee on them too.  I always wonder if I should let dogs pee on them.... I feel badly for the guy that has to pick the tree up  to throw it away. The first Christmas I had Sam (Christmas 2001) I bought a real tree.  I'd never had a boy dog before.  I set the tree up in the house, Sam walked over, sniffed it, and lifted his leg.  I had to laugh (and I still do when I think about it.)  That was probably one of Sam's best days: a tree just for him INSIDE the house.  How awesome!! :)

Christmas Trees - I love them and I feel sad for the ones that aren't bought.  However, I learned this, this year: 1.  Watering Christmas trees can be hard.  Spilling water on the floor is easy to do.  Overfilling the Christmas tree stand is really easy to do.  Overflow is not good!

2.  If I walk into your house the and Christmas tree lights on are, I will turn them off.  I never know if they're on by mistake so I err on the side of caution. :)

Lesson #24 Learned by this Pet Sitter

I should have a spare flashlight in my car.  This past weekend, I was really busy so I was out very early pet sitting.  Needless to say, it was still dark.  I used the flashlight as I was walking up to my first client's house and then I used it in their backyard.  I thought I remembered laying it down on their kitchen table.  On my way to my 2nd visit, I was digging for my flashlight in my large bag that I carry and I couldn't find it.  This was not good.  I REALLY wanted it on my next visit.  As I was walking up to the house, I dropped my keys into the side pocket of my bag and guess what, there was the flashlight.  I must be living right! It would be a good idea to have a 2nd flashlight in the car though.  Must put that on the list of things to buy this weekend.

My work bag is so big and full of so much stuff, I should triple check it before assuming that what I'm looking for isn't in there.

Lesson #23 Learned by this Pet Sitter

I think dogs must think we humans are funny when we have the hiccups.  I had them today while walking Sunny, Louis and Lola and every time I hiccuped, they'd turn and look at me like they thought it was funny!  I was worried the neighbors would hear me and think I'd been drinking.  The only thing I'd been drinking was water! :)

Lesson Learned #22

Goodbyes stink.   This has been a a tough year and a particularly hard summer.  Hard for me but even harder for the owners.  I apologize for any I've missed but rest is peace to all of these cuties:  Baxter, Bo, Bosco, Huski, Kaleb, Max D, Max S, Sammy, Sib, Slinky, Spanky, Stubby,  and Cleo who thankfully is just fine but moved out of state.

Lesson #21 Learned by this Pet Sitter

No two refrigerators are alike and I have a hard time refilling my water bottle using the water dispensers on them.  Some of them are just next to impossible to not make a mess.  I figured out which ones those are and I don't try anymore. :)  Most fridges are also stainless steel which streaks if it gets wet too.... not good.  :( Molly, Sookie and Sawyer's house is the easiest.  I am refilling it every time I am there!
