Dog Friendly Charlotte
Here’s your warning: I may be a bit biased in this post. hehe
Charlotte is a pretty dog friendly town. Here’s an idea and perhaps something you’ve not thought about doing with your dog:

If you didn’t know already, I have a 2nd business called BARKography. I love photographing dogs and September, October and November are typically perfect weather-wise for having photos taken.
Here are a few sample photos from a recent session. These two are Fleur and Muffin. This parents drove all the way from Raleigh to have me photograph their dogs and we met up in South End.
I love photographing on the painted carpets on the rail trail.
Both of the dogs were on leash the entire time.
Once the photo shoot is over, I spend a lot of time editing the photos and part of that process is editing the leash out.

Keep in mind that there are leash laws and your dog should be leashed to ensure his safety and the safety of other dogs that are around.

Many of you know that I have labs. Labs are prone to hip problems and arthritis as they age. As a dog walker and pet sitter, I am in a lot of people’s homes and I see a lot of different types of dog beds.

Have you heard of Big Barker? They make an amazing dog bed. I highly recommend them.
They are pricey but they offer a year long money back guarantee. There is absolutely no risk. Try it and return it if your dog doesn’t like it.
That’s not the case in my house. Both my dogs love their Big Barker.
They have a Barker Junior too for smaller dogs and their giant sized bed will easily fit a great dane.. or two! They come in 4 color options too and a protective liner you can purchase to help protect the bed.
At my house, we cover our bed in a twin fitted sheet. Every week we wash the sheet and that really helps to protect the bed and it’s super easy to take off and on. I’m all about keeping things simple!

BARK4CLT
I’ve started a new initiative. It’s called BARK 4 CLT ( Bark for Charlotte.) I’m using the hashtag #BARK4CLT on my posts. I’m volunteering my time to do things like take photos of dogs that are available for adoption.

This is an idea I’ve been thinking about for a while. I’ve always done some sort of volunteer work helping dogs in need and I want to do more in my local community.
Things I have done in the past:
volunteered my time walking an elderly client’s dog because she couldn’t do it herself
volunteered my time to photograph rescued dogs up for adoption.
volunteered my time with various local rescue groups at events
I want to do more of this. If you know of a rescue who needs photos taken of the dogs available for adoption, I will do it.
The dog pictured here is Grace and she is 10. She was adopted as a puppy from Animal Care and Control. She was returned earlier this year as a 10 year old dog with heartworms.
Elsa's Pride swooped in and saved her and paid for her HW treatment. For months she lived at a boarding kennel because there are never enough foster homes.
In August she moved to a foster home but due to an illness, the foster home has to give her up. A new foster or forever home is needed ASAP. She can be dog agressive but with people she is an absolute sweetheart.
A volunteer from Animal Care and Control reached out to me about photographing her and of course I said yes.
I really hope she doesn't have to go back to boarding. I hope a family will open up their home and heart to her. Everyone deserves a family.

Paws and Pics
The 2nd annual Paws and Pics event is coming up on Saturday May 12th. The location is The Embrace Sculpture at 6697 Monroe Road Charlotte NC 28212. The hours are 9am-12pm.
The 2nd annual Paws and Pics event is coming up on Saturday May 12th. The location is The Embrace Sculpture at 6697 Monroe Road Charlotte NC 28212. The hours are 9am-12pm.
You can bring your dog out to have his photo taken in front of the sculpture. The event is sponsored by Mathers and is free to the public. Each dog owner will receive one free professional photo of her dog approximately 2-3 weeks after the event. We are accepting donations for pet food and supplies for the Humane Society of Charlotte too.
The photos in this post are samples of the types of photos you might receive. The sculpture makes a great backdrop in the photos.
