Dog running with Buddy on Wed 8/25 and surgery for Sam

The Budster looks ready for a snooze! Buddy got a run in today then he got to go for a car ride to the vet's to get his nails clipped.  Sam went along for the car ride too and unfortunately was left at the vet to have surgery today.  My 12.5 year old boy needs to have 3 masses removed:  one on the top of his head, one under his eye and one in his eyelid.  It's the one in his eyelid that finally made me pull the trigger and get them removed.  He's had the other 2 "bumps" for years.  The one on his eyelid recently showed itself and it has been bothering him.

So, Sam is not going to have a good day, therefore I'm not having a great one either.  Worry, worry, worry.....

Buddy on the other hand is ready for a nap!  It's been a big day for The Budster and it's just 9am!!

Dog Running, Dog Walking and Cat Sitting on Thurs 4/8

Buddy is getting back into dog running shape.... we both have a ways to go after such a cold, rainy winter! Jackson - Jackson was laying in the sunroom just watching me as I walked up today.  When I came in, he didn't even come to greet me.... I'm guessing he was watching something outside that had his attention.  He was a very good boy this morning.  He was outside and when I called him, he came in.  I didn't even have to say "treat!"  2nd visit:  it was raining.... he sure does love to get toweled off.  That fired him up but then he settled right down when he saw the food in his bowl.

Baby & Calico - Baby greeted me on the steps when I came in today.  I fed them, gave them fresh water, cleaned the litter box and vacuumed up after them.

Sweetie - We actually had 2 short walks today, I'll explain.  It looked like it was going to pour this afternoon so I didn't want to venture too far from Sweetie's house. I know she doesn't like the rain so we just walked up and down your street.  It barely sprinkled on us.  I wasn't planning on walking her on my 2nd visit but it was raining and she looked at me like "I'm not going outside!"  So, I grabbed her leash and then she got over not going out in the rain.  We didn't walk very far... just long enough for her to at least pee :)  Mission accomplished!

Maggie - Maggie got to see Zoe and Keagan on her walk today.  She was really happy to see them and she really wanted to play with them!

George & Alex - Alex was funny today.. he made me laugh a couple of times.  He got spooked on the walk... there was all kinds of stuff falling out of the trees b/c of the wind.  Some of it landed by him and it spooked him.  I had to laugh... perhaps I shouldn't have but it was funny :)  Of course then he realized he wasn't in any danger and he wanted to chase after it blowing in the wind!  Alex and I played fetch in the house and George got belly rubs.  2nd visit:  we must be living right.  We dodged the rain.  We may have taken our longest walk yet this afternoon.

Brady & Ferguson - Brady has this thing lately about biting my leg as soon as he comes out of his crate... I'm not sure what is up with that.  He always catches me by surprise... I'm just not expecting it.  I guess before he'd bite at my pants legs and now I'm wearing shorts b/c it has been so hot.  Perhaps this isn't something new now that I think about it.  The boys enjoyed their walk today!

Sunny & Louis - They chased each other, peed after each other and both enjoyed their walk.  It wasn't raining but it was really breezy.  It felt nice!

Max - Max made me laugh today.  He barely made it into the grass when he peed:  front 2 feet in the grass, back 2 feet still on the driveway.

Dog running with Buddy

I am hoping that this will be a more frequent post:  dog running!  The weather was nice enough today (although not as warm as I was hoping) so Buddy and I got in a dog run.  I got a chance to work with him one on one as well which was nice.  I am looking into enrolling Buddy in a Therapy Dog class.  He can be shy so I'm not sure how he'll do but I think it will be good training for him regardless. I just spoke with Yvonne Fehr (www.YvonneFehr.com) who is a dog trainer that has worked with Buddy.  She thinks Therapy Dog training would be great for Buddy.  Yah!!

Dog running with Buddy and Dog walking with Sam Sam

Sammy is very tired Buddy and I had a great run this morning and he is now passed out on the couch behind me.  Sam Sam loves this cooler weather and couldn't be happier out running around in it.  Although when I took his collar off when we got to the driveway, he galloped towards the house because he knew it was time for breakfast!  Unfortunately Buddy will be pretty unhappy soon.... it is doggie bath day at our house this morning.  That's not his favorite thing.

Dog running with Buddy in Hilton Head and Lesson Learned #11

Sam Sam is very happy to be out walking with his dad! Sam and Buddy on the pier in Hilton Head. Buddy seemed a little nervous by the waves. I dont think he is water dog.

Well, Buddy got to go on his first vacation with us.  He's not super fond of the car but he did pretty good.  On the way down, he didn't sleep at all and neither did Sam.  I'm sure he was wondering where he was going.  We went for a long walk when we got there and I think Buddy decided he liked vacation.  Sam defnitely liked vacation.  Some guys on bikes went by us and commented how happy the dogs looked.

Lesson 11:  Well, I should always carry my phone when running.  We were fine but I've not run on Hilton Head before and I've not run long distances since tweaking my leg.  I decided it would be neat to see what Buddy does when he sees a horse.  We'd run about a mile or so when I came to a map and saw where the stables were.  We headed in that direction and that is when I figured out that this might not have been a great idea.  Greenwood Drive is very long!

We made it to the stables and Buddy looked at the horses but didn't pay them to much attention so we just kept going.  About 10 minutes later is when I wished I'd had my phone..... "Hello Don, get in the car and come and pick us up!!"  That crossed my mind but actually we were fine however if I'd had my phone I would've called him to let him know we were fine.  I figured he'd be wondering about us.  Sure enough, we turned down our street and here he is coming in the car to look for us.  This was our 2nd day in HH, needless to say Buddy slept really well on vacation!!

Don and I decided to rent bikes after breakfast and we rode on the beach to the Salty Dog.  My right leg was not so happy but it seems to be fine now.  I'll know tomorrow after my run with Buddy!
