the dog walker on Tues Feb 16

Have I mentioned that I LOVE my job?  Today was a great reminder why and Lesson #13: Reason #1 why I love my job:  Hero - Hero and I had a nice walk.  We both enjoyed the sunshine.  He is such a sweet boy and I get to talk to his mom everyday too and I really like her.

I kept telling Steve how cute he is!

Reason #2:  Steve.  Need I say more.  Just take a look at that face!  I didn't realize my camera battery was about dead so I only got a couple of pictures.  When I walked into his room, he was sitting up in his "pit" looking ready to go outside.  I picked him up, grabbed his "stuff" and we went outside.  He peed right away (go potty!) so he got a "good boy" and treats.  We went inside and played which consisted of me throwing a few of his toys and occasionally he would "fetch" and me trying to keep him from biting at my shoelaces and my hair!

I fed him and he ate it all (Murphy and I both enticed him to eat.)  Steve noticed that Murphy had a strong interest in his food so that's when he decided he should eat.  Murphy knows the command "no," that is one smart kitty!  After Steve ate, we played some more and then we went back outside again.  He peed again (same routine as last time, go potty, treats, good boy!) and then we came inside.  Benjamin and Frankie were outside and actually got of their fence and came over into your yard.  I had scooped Steve up so he was just fine and safe.  The other 2 dogs didn't get close to Steve.  They were really more interested in sniffing the yard.  Madison made a couple of appearances too and I was able to give both of the kitties a few scratches too.  (not all of my posts will be this detailed but I figured you'd want to know them since this was our first visit!)  2nd visit:  We went outside when I got there and he peed.  Then we went outside and played.  I took him out again before I left and he pooped.  I think he peed to but I'm not certain.... sometimes it is hard to tell!

Reasons #3 & 4:  Brady & Ferguson.  The boys just love everyone.  Today they got to say hello to someone working on a house nearby.

Reasons #5 & 6:  Sunny & Louis - These guys are two of the sweetest dogs.  I love the fact that Louis is a rescue (and was rescued as an adult.)

Reason #7:  Max.   Sweet, ole Max.  Max is 17.  It takes him a few minutes to stand up when I come and see him bless his heart but he gets up and we go outside so he can do his business.

Reason #8:  Cleo.  I call her Miss Cleo.  (I actually have nicknames for most of the pets I see... perhaps I will put them in the next newsletter!)  She makes me laugh everytime I walk into her house.  She is always sleeping upstairs... always!  I'll walk in and call her, sometimes twice and she comes down the stairs and then just gets so excited.  I kneel down to pet her and I always get kisses.

Reason #9:  Dusty.  He's just always so happy.  His tail goes non-stop when I walk him.  It's pretty funny... I can just tell he's happy!

Lesson # 13:  Starting See Spot Run is one of the best things I've ever done!

Lesson Learned #12

Lesson #12:  When doing early morning pet sitting, I should take the time to think about what I'm am putting on.  This morning I left my house pretty early, I was up and trying not to wake up Don (that didn't work out so well for Don) so I just grabbed some clothes. When walking around a neighborhood with a puppy that is very well known and lots of the neighbors have dogs, they will stop to say hi, have a conversation etc.  I should not look homeless.

oh well..

Dog running with Buddy in Hilton Head and Lesson Learned #11

Sam Sam is very happy to be out walking with his dad! Sam and Buddy on the pier in Hilton Head. Buddy seemed a little nervous by the waves. I dont think he is water dog.

Well, Buddy got to go on his first vacation with us.  He's not super fond of the car but he did pretty good.  On the way down, he didn't sleep at all and neither did Sam.  I'm sure he was wondering where he was going.  We went for a long walk when we got there and I think Buddy decided he liked vacation.  Sam defnitely liked vacation.  Some guys on bikes went by us and commented how happy the dogs looked.

Lesson 11:  Well, I should always carry my phone when running.  We were fine but I've not run on Hilton Head before and I've not run long distances since tweaking my leg.  I decided it would be neat to see what Buddy does when he sees a horse.  We'd run about a mile or so when I came to a map and saw where the stables were.  We headed in that direction and that is when I figured out that this might not have been a great idea.  Greenwood Drive is very long!

We made it to the stables and Buddy looked at the horses but didn't pay them to much attention so we just kept going.  About 10 minutes later is when I wished I'd had my phone..... "Hello Don, get in the car and come and pick us up!!"  That crossed my mind but actually we were fine however if I'd had my phone I would've called him to let him know we were fine.  I figured he'd be wondering about us.  Sure enough, we turned down our street and here he is coming in the car to look for us.  This was our 2nd day in HH, needless to say Buddy slept really well on vacation!!

Don and I decided to rent bikes after breakfast and we rode on the beach to the Salty Dog.  My right leg was not so happy but it seems to be fine now.  I'll know tomorrow after my run with Buddy!

Lesson #10

I must be living right!  Two days ago I grabbed an extra t-shirt and put it in my car.  I did this because it has been raining some lately and I got wet the other day and wish I would've had another shirt to throw on.  Well today I got pooped on.... well not really pooped on but I got poop on my shirt and I still had some pet visits to do so I was able to change my shirt.  First lesson learned where I was actually prepared!!

Dog walking in the rain with Opus and Lesson #9

A month or so ago it rained and I realized that my water resistant raincoat was no longer water resistant.  It is old so I figured it was time to replace it.  Lesson Learned:  I should not have procrastinated, I should've bought a new raincoat. It poured in south Charlotte around 7pm on Saturday night.  I was out dog walking.  I had on the aforementioned raincoat and I got drenched.  So, yesterday I went to REI and bought a new raincoat.  Given the chance of rain we've had for the past couple of days and all of the rain they're getting south of us, you'd think that I would make certain I have my new raincoat with me.  No, not so much.  This morning while walking Opus, I had to grab my Carolina Panthers windbreaker which was in the car (thank goodness) and an umbrella.  Not so easy to walk a dog and hold an umbrella.  Another lesson learned!
